The 7165 Lounge on Germantown Avenue was the absolute place to be on the first Friday of April. The occasion was a major birthday celebration for a host of Aries baby boomers who came out for an evening of great music, dancing, libations, mixing and mingling, fun and food!
Two very special people “Out & About” having a great time were Aires birthday lady Iris Chew and 7165 Lounge owner Mercer Redcross, who celebrated his birthday that evening. Through the magic of Facebook postings, many of Chew’s friends were distressed to think that she was losing her battle with breast cancer. She let everyone know that this was a “Mark Twain” party for her. She quoted Twain, “The news of my demise is greatly exaggerated,” with her incredible sense of humor. The breast cancer survivor looked fabulous and entertained many lifelong friends, Girls High classmates, and relatives who came out to cheer her on.
DJ Dr. Harold “Rusty” Fry entertained everyone with great music for the “baby boomer” crowd. The dance floor was electric with the bop, cha cha, the wobble, slow dragging and more.
WDAS Radio’s Doug Henderson called on all Aries from different years during the “baby boomer” era to make themselves known. “The term “baby boom” refers to the post-World War II baby boom (1946–1964) when the number of annual births exceeded 2 per 100 women (or approximately 2 percent of the total population). An estimated 78.3 million Americans were born during this demographic boom in births.
Party goers also enjoyed fantastic live music. Entertainment by comedienne “Amazing Grace” Imani Richardson, made us laugh out loud. We loved her rendition of super hit “Happy” by Pharrell.
Others “Out & About” having a great time included Paula Glenn Lamb, Wesley and Rene Allen, Michele Lewis Bell, Frank Prillerman, Robert Williams III, Leslie Tanner Moore, Beverly Richards, John Matthews, Lisa Hawkins, Dr. Mark Allen, Valerie Jamison, Larry and Cynthia Jackson, Gus E. Lacy, Vicky Thomas Richardson, Denise Ray, Stephanie Daniel, Sadie Mitchell, Barry Crawford, Michele Chew, Linda Washington, Linda Scott Simpkins, Jack Cofield, David Birts and Donald “Ducky” Birts, P.J. Thomas, Oscar Smith, Maureen Prillerman, Kevin and Angela Carter, Evelyn Prillerman, Valerie Burton, Evelyn Bresnelland Frank Prillerman.
As we left in good spirits, we talked about how we couldn’t wait to come back next month for the “baby boomers Taurus” party. This Taurus plans to be there!
I dedicate this column to the memory of Apolnia E. Darden, lovingly known as “Apples.” She was a true joy. We will miss her and the great times we enjoyed with her at daughter Beverly Richard’s parties with her other daughter, Cindy Williams.
