The house was packed with those born under the sign of Taurus, their family members and friends, at The 7165 Lounge on Germantown Avenue. Mercer Redcross, owner of the venue, and his son, Lamar Redcross, host an astrological celebration on the last Friday of each month with flair and style.
Since I’m a Taurus I decided to join others under the fixed Earth sign to enjoy music by DJ Kappa Rusty Frye, WDAS radio personality Doug Henderson, delicious food, awesome birthday cake, lots of dancing and a great evening of fun.
Baby boomers were well represented, but there was also a nice intergenerational blend. Among those “Out & About” were Iris Chew, Gus Lacy, Kira Clifford,Chad and Loren Hamilton, Michelle Lewis, Ron Parnell, Miriam Lawson, Mark Chandler, Stephanie Daniel, Michelle Chew, Robert Scott, Bobby W. Williams III, Deborah Chew James, Linda Simpkins Scott, Gwen Watts Mabine, Janet Hunter, Ron Parnell, Valerie Jamison and Earl Harvey of The Platinum Grille, where the party continued in full force until the early hours of the next morning.
Major shout outs to all Taurus sisters and brothers born between April 21-May 21 with Philly connections. Just a few of these people are Chef Kim Fonville, Beverly Richards, Nathan Anthony Bleu, Carlena Saunders, Frank Prillerman, Chef Angi Brown, Cynthia Jackson,Irenda Geneva Gates, Pamela Harris, Charles Hale, Byron Brooks, Sharon Williams Losier, Dr. Lynda Thomas Mabine, John “T.C.” Lay and a host of others whom I cannot fit into this space.
Taurus notables include legendary figures such as Marvin Gaye, Duke Ellington, William Shakespeare,Coretta Scott King, Martha Graham, Fred Astaire, Jack Nicholson and Ella Fitzgerald.
I did a little research to gather what some may find interesting about this Earth- fixed sign which is symbolized by the bull. The Taurus motto is, “I have,” and the Taurus mode is sensation. Those born under this sign are generally attracted to those born under the signs of Libra, Scorpio and Capricorn. The Taurus birthstone is a diamond. Our colors are deep blue and deep green.
According to “The Secret Language of Birthdays,” by Gary Goldschneider and Joost Elffers, “Taureans like being part of a team but must retain a large measure of autonomy; their dominant urges and individuality usually make it difficult for them to stay in the role of follower. In keeping with their reputation for stubbornness, those who work with them may periodically encounter the Taurus line: “My way, or no way.” But ultimately they have the best interest of those around them at heart. They live for the people they love.”
