Amed Ouattara was born February 28, 1982 in Bobo Dioulasso, the second largest city of Burkina Faso, West Africa. He is the fourth born of six children. Amed’s formal education ended after only three years. He had to leave school after losing four family members. Amed’s father, an educator, was the first to die. Later, Amed also lost a sister, a brother and his mother. These events forced Amed to become the breadwinner for himself and his remaining siblings. Art became a hobby that distracted him from his troubles. He soon found that he was able to make money by creating and selling postcards. This success has fueled his passion for art. He drew flowers and African landscapes on cards and boxes. In 2009 Amed began working with his uncle Bazongo Elvis Aristide, a famous painter in Burkina Faso. He perfected his technique under the guidance of his uncle. Since 2011 Amed has given painting lessons in a local culinary camp. Art is an essential expression of the human spirit. There is something in the “primitive” art that is able to connect with our minds and spirits. The  soul-stirring  passions of African art inspired Pablo Picasso. When one views Amed’s images it’s easy to see how Picasso was captivated by African art. It is impossible to see his images without connecting with them and be enriched by them. The art of Amed has been sold by his uncle in Europe and is now being made available in America
