Lorna Massie is a Hudson Valley printmaker, living in a 200 year old converted barn at the foot of the Catskills, above the tiny village of Kripplebush. Massie says, “I like the simplicity of prints. The challenge is to reduce an infinity of colors and lines to an abstraction which has its own peculiar force.”
Massie has been printing serigraphs since 1975 and has received several awards. Massie’s prints are in many public and private collections and have been widley exhibited, both nationally and internationally.
A Wisconsin native, Massie attended Smith College and the University of California at Berkley. She studied figure drawing with Marshall Glazier in New York City. Once she and her family relocated to Kripplebush, she started working in color, studying oil painting with Robert Angeloch and pastels with Albert Handell, both of Woodstock, NY. The Women’s Studio Workshop of Rosendale has helped her with printing techniques.
