SUMMARY:Racial Healing Circles: Kusanya "The Gathering"
DESCRIPTION:The Anti-Racism Commission of the Episcopal Diocese of PA is offering racial healing circles facilitated by Lailah Dunbar-Keeys\, M.S.\, M.Ed.\n\n\nThe Anti-Racism Commission of the Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania is offering racial healing circles facilitated by Lailah Dunbar-Keeys\, M.S.\, M.Ed. \nGrounded in historical\, cultural\, sociological\, and spiritual understanding\, racial healing circles will provide a safe space for small groups of like-minded people to share their stories about the challenging realities of systemic racism. \nIn our current cultural climate with sweeping legislation that undermines centuries of Civil Rights policies\, and social justice practices\, many people find themselves grasping for meaning. With the support of the circle facilitator\, participants will be provided the tools to listen\, reflect\, and gain understanding. \nThis racial healing circle is for an African American affinity group (i.e.\, people who identify as African American). We will convene a multicultural healing circle in the future. \nQuestions you may be asked to consider are: \n\nWhat does it mean to be Black today?\nHow do you navigate systemic racism in our current cultural climate?\nHow does your faith support you in overcoming these challenges?\n\nFor questions about ARC’s racial healing circles\, or if you are interested in hosting a racial healing circle for people who identify as African American at your church\, please email The Rev. Andrea Gardner (deaconandreagardner@gmail.com). \n\n\nShare this:\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n Like this:Like Loading...

SUMMARY:African Americans in the Revolutionary War Navy
DESCRIPTION:The Continental Army and militias included 3\,000 to 5\,000 Black soldiers and the British recruited about 12\,000. Learn more about their work\n\n\nThe Continental Army and militias included 3\,000 to 5\,000 Black soldiers and the British recruited about 12\,000. Our speaker\, Leon Brooks began his study of those men and their families in 2001\, when he was invited to join re-enactors of the First Rhode Island Regiment\, which was about 80% Black and 20% Native American. Later\, Leon connected with another unit\, the Marblehead Marines. Marblehead\, a few miles north of Boston\, was the home of General John Glover\, a fisherman and seafarer who organized one of the first units of the United States Marines. The Marblehead Marines were the boatmen who rowed Washington across the Delaware. \nWe are delighted to host Mr. Brooks as he shares tales of African Americans in the Navy during the Revolutionary War\, and in particular their invaluable contributions to the 1776 Crossing of the Delaware.

SUMMARY:African American Museum in Philadelphia
DESCRIPTION:Sailing to Freedom: Maritime Dimensions of the Underground Railroad \nOn View: September 13\, 2025 – April 26\, 2026 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJack T. Franklin Auditorium \nAAMP is pleased to present Sailing to Freedom: Maritime Dimensions of the Underground Railroad\, a compelling traveling exhibition developed initially at the New Bedford Whaling Museum in 2022 under the co-curation of Dr. Timothy Walker and Michael Dyer. \nThis landmark project invites audiences to revisit and deepen our understanding of the maritime dimension of the Underground Railroad. It uncovers how enslaved African Americans\, in addition to overland routes\, undertook daring escapes by sea—charting covert paths along the Atlantic coast\, aboard merchant and passenger vessels\, and via lesser-known watercraft.\n\nThis traveling version of the exhibition presents faithful reproductions of the original displays\, alongside new interpretive material that expands both geographical scope and historical insight. It offers visitors an immersive encounter with narratives of flight\, resilience\, and agency—stories of freedom pursued not only across land but over water\, and beyond the bounds of the United States. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDetails – visit the museum’s website click here\n\n\nShare this:\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n Like this:Like Loading...
