SUMMARY:African American Museum in Philadelphia
DESCRIPTION:Sailing to Freedom: Maritime Dimensions of the Underground Railroad \nOn View: September 13\, 2025 – April 26\, 2026 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJack T. Franklin Auditorium \nAAMP is pleased to present Sailing to Freedom: Maritime Dimensions of the Underground Railroad\, a compelling traveling exhibition developed initially at the New Bedford Whaling Museum in 2022 under the co-curation of Dr. Timothy Walker and Michael Dyer. \nThis landmark project invites audiences to revisit and deepen our understanding of the maritime dimension of the Underground Railroad. It uncovers how enslaved African Americans\, in addition to overland routes\, undertook daring escapes by sea—charting covert paths along the Atlantic coast\, aboard merchant and passenger vessels\, and via lesser-known watercraft.\n\nThis traveling version of the exhibition presents faithful reproductions of the original displays\, alongside new interpretive material that expands both geographical scope and historical insight. It offers visitors an immersive encounter with narratives of flight\, resilience\, and agency—stories of freedom pursued not only across land but over water\, and beyond the bounds of the United States. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDetails – visit the museum’s website click here\n\n\nShare this:\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n Like this:Like Loading…

SUMMARY:Racial Healing Circles: Kusanya "The Gathering"
DESCRIPTION:The Anti-Racism Commission of the Episcopal Diocese of PA is offering racial healing circles facilitated by Lailah Dunbar-Keeys\, M.S.\, M.Ed.\n\n\nThe Anti-Racism Commission of the Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania is offering racial healing circles facilitated by Lailah Dunbar-Keeys\, M.S.\, M.Ed. \nGrounded in historical\, cultural\, sociological\, and spiritual understanding\, racial healing circles will provide a safe space for small groups of like-minded people to share their stories about the challenging realities of systemic racism. \nIn our current cultural climate with sweeping legislation that undermines centuries of Civil Rights policies\, and social justice practices\, many people find themselves grasping for meaning. With the support of the circle facilitator\, participants will be provided the tools to listen\, reflect\, and gain understanding. \nThis racial healing circle is for an African American affinity group (i.e.\, people who identify as African American). We will convene a multicultural healing circle in the future. \nQuestions you may be asked to consider are: \n\nWhat does it mean to be Black today?\nHow do you navigate systemic racism in our current cultural climate?\nHow does your faith support you in overcoming these challenges?\n\nFor questions about ARC’s racial healing circles\, or if you are interested in hosting a racial healing circle for people who identify as African American at your church\, please email The Rev. Andrea Gardner (deaconandreagardner@gmail.com). \n\n\nShare this:\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n Like this:Like Loading…

Smith is here for the launch of his book\, Lead Boldly: Seven Principles from Dr. Martin Luther King\, Jr. He will be in conversation with professor and founding Director of Temple University’s Center for Anti-Racism at Temple University\, Timothy Welbeck. \nA Q&A will follow the discussion. All copies of Lead Boldly will be signed. \nThis event is Free to the public. \nThe first 100 attendees will receive a free copy of Lead Boldly. \nYou don’t want to miss this! \n****** \nAbout the book: \nLeadership insights from one of history’s most influential voices. \nDr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated more than 55 years ago\, yet his words continue to inspire millions of people\, young and old—from all races and backgrounds. During his remarkable life\, he embodies bold and compassionate leadership and achieved a level of influence few thought possible for a Black man born in Atlanta just before the Great Depression. \nNow\, aspiring leaders can reflect on some of Dr. King’s most impactful speeches and integrate his lessons into their modern leadership journeys. Robert F. Smith\, Founder\, Chairman and CEO of Vista Equity Partners\, offers his own insights and experiences on each passage on how themes like “The Beloved Community”\, “Economic Justice”\, and “Two Americas” played a central role in his own leadership development and why the visionary ideas of Dr. King espoused are so important for leaders to understand and apply today. \n \nAbout the author: \nRobert F. Smith is an American investor\, philanthropist and entrepreneur. He leads Vista Equity Partners\, a global technology investor that specializes in enterprise software. \nThroughout his life\, Smith’s commitments to philanthropy and equality of opportunity have never wavered\, and finding ways to make a difference in the communities where he lives and works is central to his character and approach to life. During his 2019 commencement address at Morehouse College\, a Historically Black College\, Smith committed to eliminating the student loan debt of the graduating class and later expanded his gift to eliminate student loan debt held by the students’ guardians on their behalf. Smith holds many board positions – he is the Chairman of Carnegie Hall and Student Freedom Initiative (SFI)\, co-lead of Southern Communities Initiative (SCI) and the founding director and President of Fund II Foundation. In addition\, he is a major donor to the National Museum of African American History and Culture\, the King Center\, his alma maters\, Cornell University and Columbia University\, and the Sphinx Organization\, among many others. Smith was honored by being listed as one of Forbes’ 100 Greatest Living Business Minds in 2017 and TIME100’s “Most Influential People” in 2020. \n \n****** \nKey Details \nDoors will open at 6:00pm \nSeating will be on a first come\, first serve basis.
