Seminar: Umoja / Unity – the First Day of Kwanzaa
A panel discussion at 2 PM

Meaning:
To strive for and maintain unity in the family, community, nation, and race.

Symbol:
The black candle in the center of the Kinara (candle holder) is lit first.

Practice:
Families discuss how to achieve active solidarity and togetherness, often sharing meals and stories.

Greeting:The greeting for the day is “Habari gani?” (What’s the news?), with the answer being “Umoja!”.
Seminar: Claim Your Culture
Kwanzaa – Celebration of the Culture…Black Art is the Signature of a Culture.
A panel discussion at 3:30 PM.
