The 2 Live Crew founder and longtime activist enters Florida’s 20th Congressional District race, challenging an incumbent under indictment in an already crowded Democratic primary.
Election season in Florida just got a jolt of 808s and political ambition.
Luther “Uncle Luke” Campbell — the rap pioneer, First Amendment fighter, and youth football coach — says he’s officially running for Congress in 2026. The announcement came during an appearance on “This Week in South Florida,” where Campbell confirmed he plans to seek the Democratic nomination in Florida’s 20th Congressional District.
“I’m going to run for Congress in CD 20,” Campbell said, pointing to what he described as deep frustration from residents across Broward and Palm Beach counties. “It is a very underserved community. The representation of the district is not there. People want to be able to engage with their congressperson.”
The seat is currently held by Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, who is facing federal indictment related to alleged misuse of COVID-19 relief funds. She has denied wrongdoing and pleaded not guilty. In a written statement responding to Campbell’s challenge, Cherfilus-McCormick said her record speaks for itself and that constituents know who “shows up and fights for them.”
Campbell, 65, is no stranger to controversy or the spotlight. As the frontman of 2 Live Crew, he became a central figure in one of hip-hop’s most consequential free speech battles. In 1990, members of the group were arrested on obscenity charges after performing songs from their album “As Nasty As They Wanna Be.” The case ultimately became a landmark moment in First Amendment law after higher courts overturned a ruling that had labeled the lyrics obscene.
For Campbell, that fight reshaped his public identity. What started as a clash over music evolved into years of civic engagement, youth mentorship, and political commentary. He later ran for mayor of Miami-Dade County in 2011, finishing fourth, and has remained active in local politics and community programs ever since.
Now, he’s taking aim at Washington.
Though a Democrat, Campbell says his value lies in his ability to work across party lines. He argues he would be uniquely positioned to speak directly with powerful Republican figures, including Donald Trump and Marco Rubio.
“In this race, who’s gonna be able to go talk to Marco Rubio? Who’s gonna be able to go talk to Donald Trump? Me,” Campbell said, adding that he believes his relationships and name recognition could translate into tangible wins for the district.
Campbell also made clear he expects to be financially competitive. He pointed to decades in the music industry and relationships with artists across Southern hip-hop as a potential fundraising base. “I’m going to have a lot of money,” he said, predicting support from artists he has produced or influenced.
Still, the road to Congress won’t be simple.
Florida’s 20th District is already crowded. Several Democrats, including former Broward County Commissioner Dale Holness and civic activist Elijah Manley, have entered the race. Physician, attorney, and retired Air Force colonel Dr. Rudy Moise also announced his candidacy, adding another high-profile name to the primary field. Two Republicans have declared as well.
Complicating matters further, Florida Republicans are pushing for a rare mid-decade redistricting that could reshape the district’s boundaries before voters head to the polls. That means candidates are campaigning in a district that may not look the same by 2026.
Despite the uncertainty, Campbell says conversations with residents have convinced him the timing is right. He points to job losses in the Glades communities due to automation in the sugar industry, concerns about education funding, and anxiety among Haitian constituents over the potential rollback of Temporary Protected Status.
He insists his past won’t be a liability. “The 10 things that I don’t want people to know about, everybody already knows about,” he said. “People know my history. But then at the same time, people know the things that I’ve done in the community.”
In January, Campbell stepped down as head football coach at Miami Edison Senior High School, saying he couldn’t juggle coaching and a congressional campaign. The move signaled what many in South Florida already suspected: Uncle Luke wasn’t just talking politics. He was preparing for it.
Whether voters see him as a serious legislator or a celebrity challenger remains to be seen. But in a district rocked by indictment, ethics investigations, and a widening primary field, Campbell’s entrance ensures that Florida’s 20th will be one of the most watched races of the 2026 midterms.

U.S. Border Czar Defends Masks For ICE Agents Despite Democrats’ Demands For Removal

One of the Democrats’ demands to end the government shutdown is a removal of the mask mandate for ICE agents.
White House Border Czar Tom Homan is defending ICE agents’ ability to wear masks amid the government shutdown, as the mandate becomes a point of contention.
Despite not liking them, he insists on the masks’ importance amid claims of increased violence against ICE agents. He appeared on Face the Nation on Feb. 15 to explain his thoughts on the matter.
“I don’t like the masks either,” Homan stated, as reported by CBS News.
He also added, “These men and women have to protect themselves.”
He also noted a new report from the Department of Homeland Security, asserting that assaults against ICE agents have increased by over 1300%. Given the proposed rise in violence against immigration officers, the mask mandate offers a semblance of safety and less harassment when off the clock.
However, the backlash against ICE agents continues to grow with their ongoing raids nationwide. In light of the agent-related deaths of U.S. citizens Renee Good and Alex Petti, as well as controversial deportations, many anti-ICE advocates have taken to the streets to protest their increased presence across U.S. cities.
However, the masking remains another barrier to reopening the Department of Homeland Security. The U.S. entered a partial government shutdown over the matter on Feb. 14, with Democratic lawmakers refusing to approve an annual budget without revisions to ICE spending.
In addition to a ban on masks, Democrats are also fighting for agents to wear body cameras and identification, as well as the elimination of racial profiling, before agreeing to a deal. As for the profiling, Homan denied the allegations, stating that ICE agents have the right to question people “based on reasonable suspicion.”
“They want to say, stop racial profiling. That’s just not occurring. ICE will briefly detain and question, but only question someone based on reasonable suspicion. It has nothing to do with racial profiling,” continued the Border Zzar. “There is no racial profiling.”
Homan also criticized another demand, which would require judicial warrants before ICE agents make arrests on private property. The Trump official said Congress should pass new legislation if it wants to make significant changes.
“If Congress wants that change, then Congress can legislate. But right now, ICE is acting within the framework of federal statutes enacted by Congress and signed by a president,” he expressed.
Despite calls from GOP leaders to agree to the budget, Democrats refuse to back down as DHS funding comes to a halt over the polarizing issue of ICE.

Chicago Entrepreneur Opens Grocery Store To Reclaim Promise Of ‘Forty Acres’

The Black-owned market in Austin neighborhood blends history, design, and access to fresh food during Black History Month
A long-broken post-Civil War pledge is finding new meaning on Chicago’s West Side. During Black History Month, entrepreneur Liz Abunaw is reframing the historic promise of “forty acres and a mule” through the launch of her grocery store, Forty Acres Fresh Market, in the Austin neighborhood. The concept references the federal government’s unfulfilled commitment to provide land and opportunity to formerly enslaved people. For Abunaw, it represents economic ownership and community investment.
“What would it look like if we actually got our 40 acres?” Abunaw asked. In her view, it looks like a thriving, Black woman-owned supermarket serving its Chicago neighbors.
As reported by CBS News, located at Chicago Avenue and Waller Street, the store occupies a space that once housed a Salvation Army thrift shop. Abunaw said the former building felt closed off and uninviting. “This place used to look like a prison,” she said, recalling its concrete block walls and minimal entryway. When redesigning the property, she focused on light and openness.
“You have to open it up,” she explained.
Inside, the aesthetic mixes nostalgia with modern touches. Abunaw said she aimed for a contemporary general store atmosphere, inspired in part by mid-century soda fountains.
“The decor in this place, I wanted it to feel like a 1950’s ice cream shop,” she said.
The market opened in September 2025, marking a significant milestone for a community that previously lacked a full-service grocery option. Abunaw said Chicago’s Austin residents often had to travel to surrounding neighborhoods or suburbs to buy essentials.
“Look around us. The mayor lives on the next block,” she noted. “The man can afford food, but until we got here, he had to go into Oak Park to get food.”
Though she resists labeling the area a “food desert,” Abunaw acknowledged disparities in access to fresh groceries. Drawing on experience from her years at General Mills, she said running a supermarket requires precision. “Grocery is not complicated, but it is complex,” she said, adding that success depends on managing many small tasks at once.
Customers say the convenience is transformative. Nearby resident Samuel Correa said quick trips for basics are now possible without a lengthy drive. Community member Haniyyah King praised both the symbolism and quality of the store’s offerings.
Abunaw believes competitive pricing is key to sustainability. “If we’re charging the same prices as other grocery stores, that means we’re doing it right,” she said.
While proud of her achievement, Abunaw emphasized she is building on a legacy of Black-owned Chicago grocers who came before her — and continuing a story that began generations ago.

Todd Tucker responds to Kandi Burruss’ ‘rent free’ accusations; says he was ‘removed’ from home
Earlier this week, the former “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star said Tucker was not contributing financially while still living on property that she owns.
Divorce proceedings between Kandi Burruss and Todd Tucker have only gotten uglier. This week, singer-songwriter and former ‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’ star Burruss said that Tucker has been living rent-free in her guest house during their separation. Now, Tucker is responding.
According to a filing from Burruss’ estranged husband, he was “unilaterally removed” from their main home without his consent and without court involvement, which is why he currently lives in the guest house. TMZ first reported that Tucker claimed that although he did not leave the home voluntarily, he did not fight Burruss on the matter to “preserve peace and stability.”
Burruss claimed on Thursday (Feb. 12) in a court filing that Tucker was living on her property and not contributing to expenses related to maintenance, utilities, lawn care, pest control, or even the alarm system. She has also asked for Tucker to begin paying child support and formalize child co-parenting arrangements. The former couple has two children together, Ace and Blaze, and each has a child from a previous relationship.
Some of the contention between the two involves presence and time with their children. Burruss originally requested a joint custody agreement between herself and Tucker when she filed for divorce in November of last year, but when Tucker asked for sole custody, she did the same for herself.
Burruss said she has been flying back and forth between her home base in Atlanta and New York since late 2025 to work on a Broadway show. Tucker, in the new filings, is calling this an “ongoing physical absence” from the kids, claiming that he is looking after them and that Burruss is relying on “a third-party caregiver.” He has asked for temporary primary custody until their parenting arrangement is settled.
“[Burruss] now attempts to reframe and weaponize this self-created financial arrangement as evidence of financial instability or neglect, while the timing and sequence of events demonstrate otherwise,” Tucker said in the filing.

Jackie taught us which makeup products to buy, what to leave on the shelf and how to find our undertones. She took us along for “Get Ready With Mes,” product testings, and story times. Her presence online has inspired an entire generation of Black women learning how to navigate beauty, luxury, and self-expression in real time.
Hair, beauty, lifestyle. All of it. She’s been expanding her influence for over a decade. And she’s still evolving.
So when I caught up with her getting ready for Sergio Hudson’s New York Fashion Week (NYFW) Fall/Winter 2026 show, I was totally fangirling. We’ve met in passing at events before – you know, quick hugs, quick hellos, the usual NYFW shuffle. But sitting down with the makeup guru herself was a completely different experience. We were like two girlfriends catching up on fashion, fragrance, winter skin struggles, and everything in between, all while getting ready for one of the most talked about NYFW shows this season.

Her suite looked like a boutique showroom the moment I stepped inside. (I later found out the fashion on display was courtesy of her stylist, Amira Vee.) Racks of clothing lined the room. Shoes were set out in rows, from high heels to slingbacks to pumps to boots. Accessories covered the tables. Multiple purses were within reach, from Louis Vuitton to Schiaparelli, to name a few. There were leather gloves in different colors, bold earrings, sunglasses, and bracelets. Everything was custom and couture but curated for Jackie.
It was a fashion girl’s playground.
The glam station looked exactly how you’d imagine. NARS. Kevyn Aucoin. Danessa Myricks Beauty. One/Size and more.
Jackie sipped a pistachio latte from a local coffee shop she recently fell in love with. Her hubby, Denis Asamoah, dropped it off before our chat. Even OGs like Jackie need a sweet pick-me-up before a night out.
Her makeup was basically done. Skin glowing, eyes shimmering, lashes sitting just right. Her hairstylist was booked, so she was doing double duty, touching up her sleek, blonde, chin-length bob herself. Deep side part. Smooth and sharp. The cut was immaculate, straight and precise.
Her camera was set up, lighting ready. She was filming while getting ready, and we talked through it all.
“Sergio does a good structured power suit or like a really simple, clean dress so like today’s glam ties all that in,” she said, smoothing her hair into place.
She likes to do things her way. In her words, she can give a lil’ “obnoxious.” In the context of fashion, that means committing to the look. The bold color. The leather. The monochrome moment. Not second-guessing it. Showing up to be seen.
Our conversation moved easily. We talked about designers she loves and the excitement of runway fashion. We talked about the comfort of a good pajama set at night. Her niche fragrance brand, Forvr Mood. Her experience wearing Sergio to the White House.
And when it comes to fashion weeks, Jackie isn’t stopping at NYFW. She’s ready to go global. Copenhagen Fashion Week is high on her list. “I love Danish style,” she shared, smiling at the thought.
But for now, it was freezing in New York. And because I was sitting with the OG herself in the middle of February temperatures that don’t play, you know I had to ask for some cold-weather-ready beauty secrets.
When it comes to winter skin, she kept it practical.
“Winter makeup is a whole balancing act,” she said. “You’re battling dry air but also trying not to clog your pores.”
Her focus is moisture balancing. “Not too much hydration, not too little. No matte products, but no dewy products either. Something right in the middle.”
For brown girls especially, skincare in colder months matters, but she doesn’t overcomplicate it. “Skincare isn’t as complicated as people think. One or two good serums and a good face cream.”
And for the people reaching for Vaseline when the air gets disrespectful, she clarified: “Vaseline is not a moisturizer — it’s a seal. It won’t penetrate the skin. It seals whatever you put underneath it.”
We also talked fragrance, which she now builds into her getting-ready ritual.
“I absolutely factor in what I want to smell like around what I’m wearing,” she said. “What’s the vibe I want to convey? Is it sexy, sultry, mysterious? I play off of that and go from there.”
And speaking of sultry, sexy, and mysterious, enter Jackie’s Sergio Hudson look for the night.
A fire-engine red moment from head to toe. Fitted leather pants tailored to perfection. A matching leather button-down layered under a cardigan and a wool coat in that same commanding shade. A slim belt at the waist. Red gloves. And a leather red tie that sealed the deal. Her final fit was the kind of look that serves the girls and feeds them.
The vibes were in your face and a little obnoxious, just like Jackie likes to be. (Her stylist Amira did her thing.)
We ended the night rushing to the highly anticipated anniversary show at the New York Public Library. And when Jackie walked in, heads turned. Conversations paused. People looked twice. Because like we said in the beginning, she is, and forever will be, that girl.

Trump Vows To Make Voter ID A Requirement Before Midterm Elections

Donald Trump is adamant about making a national voter-ID requirement official ahead of the midterm elections.
The U.S. president shared his plans to enforce the voter-ID in new posts to Truth Social, released Feb. 13. In the social media snippets, he revealed how he intends to make the legislation happen through an executive order.
Trump blamed Democrats for allowing the requirement to remain unenforced, leaving him to take on the task himself. The president has also claimed to have researched the issue thoroughly. He noted plans to present his case “in the very near future.
“The Democrats refuse to vote for Voter I.D., or Citizenship. The reason is very simple — They want to continue to cheat in Elections,” wrote Trump. “This was not what our Founders desired. I have searched the depths of Legal Arguments not yet articulated or vetted on this subject, and will be presenting an irrefutable one in the very near future.
However, Trump remains convicted on implementing voted-ID before the 2026 midterms this fall. So much so, he is willing to bypass Congress for it.
He added, “There will be Voter I.D. for the Midterm Elections, whether approved by Congress or not!”
In a follow-up post, Trump continued his tirade against the Democratic lawmakers and his alleged suspicions regarding their opposition to voter ID.
“We cannot let the Democrats get away with NO VOTER I.D. any longer. These are horrible, disingenuous CHEATERS,” he wrote in a subsequent post. “They have all sorts of reasons why it shouldn’t be passed, and then boldly laugh in the backrooms after their ridiculous presentations.”
Naysayers fear that the requirement would risk the voting rights of several groups.
A current bill on the House floor, the SAVE America Act, would require proof of citizenship and a photo ID to cast a ballot. According to CNBC, most Democrats condemned the Trump-backed bill for its potential voter disenfranchisement.
While Trump has pushed the bill as helping the GOP, others say the opposite–that many people in red states don’t have the proper ID to vote, while many more Blue state residents hold passports. CNN‘s Abby Phillip tweeted in response to conservative pundit Scott Jennings’ support of the act, “Here are the facts: the 7 states where 2/3 of Americans don’t have a passport. All of them are red states: West Virginia, Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, and Oklahoma. Yes, that’s your home state, Scott.”

The President intends to push the matter through an executive order, although the validity of such action remains unclear.
“This is an issue that must be fought, and must be fought, NOW! If we can’t get it through Congress, there are Legal reasons why this SCAM is not permitted. I will be presenting them shortly, in the form of an Executive Order.”

Obama responds to Trump’s racist video: ‘The American people find this behavior deeply troubling’
The 44th president said that despite what is shown on television and social media, most Americans believe in “decency, courtesy,” and “kindness.”
Barack Obama has addressed the racist video that President Donald Trump posted, in which he and Michelle Obama are depicted as apes, calling out the lack of “shame” he feels from people who used to have “respect for the office.” But he doesn’t believe Trump’s actions reflect the American people.
In an interview with podcaster Brian Tyler Cohen yesterday (Feb. 14), the former president expressed that he believes most Americans do not cosign racist actions like Trump’s now-deleted Truth Social video, despite what is shown in the media.
“It’s important to recognize that the majority of the American people find this behavior deeply troubling,” the first Black president said. “It is true that it gets attention, that it’s a distraction. But as I’m traveling around the country, you meet people… they still believe in decency, courtesy, kindness. And there’s this sort of clown show that’s happening in social media and on television.”
President Trump has only doubled down on the video, even though it has been removed from his social media account. When speaking to reporters earlier this week, he said that the White House staffer he claims posted the video would not be disciplined, and that the purpose of the video was to address voter fraud. He also posted photos and videos of himself with Black public figures on Truth Social.
Obama noted that there has been a change from people who would not have previously tolerated the racist video, though he didn’t name which people in particular.
“And what is true is that there doesn’t seem to be any shame about this among people who used to feel like you had to have some sort of decorum and the sense of propriety and respect for the office. That’s been lost,” he said. “But the reason I point out that I don’t think the majority of the American people approve of this is that ultimately the answer is going to come from the American people.”
He continued, discussing as an example how people in Minnesota, specifically Minneapolis and St. Paul, have been protesting and organizing against federal immigration agents in their communities.
“We should take a moment to appreciate the extraordinary outpouring of organizing, community building, decency,” he said. “Neighbors buying groceries for folks, accompanying children to school, teachers who were standing up for their kids. Not just randomly, but in a systematic, organized way. Citizens saying, ‘This is not the America we believe in.’”

“Photography and the Black Arts Movement” explores the role of visual art at a time when Black culture is increasingly under attack.
The Black Arts Movement is getting a fresh look thanks to a new exhibit sponsored by the National Gallery of Art. “Photography and the Black Arts Movement, 1955-1985” explores the important role of photography and visual art in organizing and mass communication.
At a time when Black culture and depictions of Black life are being removed from public view, this exhibit offers a new look at a crucial period in our history.
“The works in this exhibition show how a wide range of artists and activists tapped the power of photography to strengthen respect for the Black community and culture,” said Timothy Potts, Maria Hummer-Tuttle, and Robert Tuttle, Director of the J. Paul Getty Museum, in a statement. “Amid the turbulence of the mid-20th century, they found powerful ways of using photography to support and advance social justice.”

While art and innovation have always been a part of the Black experience, the Black Arts Movement came of age during a pivotal era in our history. Growing alongside the Civil Rights and Black Power Movements, the Black Arts Movement represented a collective consciousness exploring Blackness across the diaspora through an art lens.
According to Getty, “Photography and the Black Arts Movement” is curated by Philip Brookman, consulting curator of photographs at the National Gallery of Art, and Deborah Willis, university professor and chair of the department of photography and imaging at the Tisch School of the Arts and director of the Center for Black Visual Culture at New York University.
The exhibition is divided into sections that highlight key aspects of Black life, culture, and advocacy in the mid-20th century. In the section “Transformations in Art and Culture,” exhibits explore how artists reclaim and control mass media formats, including magazines and video, to create alternative spaces for Black expression outside cultural gatekeepers.
Another section focuses on the era’s activism, particularly in the 1960s and 1970s, and how photography served as an advocacy tool. The documentation of experiences and harms caught by field photographers helped shift popular perception at major inflection points. It also showcased the burden and pain endured by Black people in the ongoing project of challenging white supremacy and injustice.
Opening on February 24, 2026, and running through June 12, 2026, the exhibit explores the work of over 100 visual artists who used imagery to depict struggles against injustice and inequality. The exhibit will also be available later this year at the Mississippi Museum of Art in Jackson, MS.
Getty will also sponsor a companion event on Tuesday, February 23, 2026, featuring artists from the exhibition and a screening of Barbara McCullough’s documentary Horace Tapscott: Musical Griot. The event gives attendees the opportunity to hear directly from the artists about their work.

Let’s get you all started with the “why” as per usual. Even though it should be quite obvious — more money? hello? — there should be a general understanding of where it makes sense to even begin your journey. In an economy that can oftentimes feel like an uphill battle for any race, African Americans usually have a proverbial Draw 4 card thrown on top of that based on a series of preexisting factors, including historical bias in the workplace, regional prejudice in cities with a heavy minority population and everyone’s favorite: good ol’ systemic racism!
So, first and foremost, take a look at how to better understand why.
It all starts at home, literally. Homeownership is one of the primary ways that Black families can keep money within the family while solidifying a consistent place that all relatives can consider the base. According to Urban Institute, homeownership has the potential to actually outperform stocks and bonds financially if done right. As they put it, “the returns for homeownership, not including the tax benefit, are higher than the after-tax returns on a bond index and on the S&P 500.” They also go on to add other beneficial gains like paying little or no capital gains tax when a home appreciates in value, and the lack of tax paid on “imputed rent” — essentially, that’s the return homeowners get simply for living in their own home, which normally is taxable for those paying rent to a landlord.

However, don’t sleep on stock investing as well for building generational wealth. A diversified investment portfolio that includes stocks, bonds and retirement accounts can go a long way in generating long-term wealth. Financial service firms with certified experts who are trained to generate and grow money are your best bet. From your trusted banking service to specialized firms like LPL Financial, it can be as simple as scheduling an appointment.
Of course, the one most people go for is entrepreneurship. We couldn’t agree more, but always remember to get into it for the right reasons and with the right game plan. For those of us who don’t have an uncle named Rev Run, gaining startup capital may seem like the hardest hurdle in the process. However, many public services provide monetary support in the form of small business loans and grants. At the same time, some even offer networking opportunities that get you in the right rooms to get the job done on your own terms, like the entrepreneur you’re becoming. Good examples include the Small Business Administration, the NAACP Black Entrepreneurship Program, and networking through the U.S. Black Chamber of Commerce, all of which are invaluable resources.
Now that you’ve got a plan for your money, the next step is choosing a trusted place to plant, nurture and watch it grow — think of this as the type of tree that money actually does grow on. Thankfully, the choice is yours based on the state you live in. Those in Alabama, for example, have BHM Bank (formerly Alamerica Bank as of 2025) and the Bridgeway Credit Union, for example. In a more populous city like NYC, there’s the fan-favorite Carver Bank and Brooklyn-based Concord Federal Credit Union for you to utilize.

Whether it’s a bad credit score or you’re one of the infamous “ghost creditors” still sitting at zero, there are tools at your disposal that can get you on the road to 650 and greater. The primary outlet is applying for a secured credit card, which operates like any credit card but requires a security deposit that becomes your credit limit. Most major banks offer the option to add a secured card, which can substantially raise credit scores by reporting positive credit history and result in a higher total amount of available credit at lower interest rates.
Those who aren’t on the homeowner wave can look into rent reporting as a way of building credit as well, in addition to credit builder loans that are designed to specifically show how trustworthy you can be when it comes to paying back in a timely fashion.
Firms dedicated specifically to finding a common ground between money and melanin are the gems in this whole ordeal. When it comes to any questions, tips, tools, virtual, in-person and all the happy stress that comes with growing wealth, an investment platform will feel like your very own Pokémon Center. Stefon Diggs accuser speaks out about assault case, denies claims she is seeking a settlement
In a new statement, the Diggs’ former personal chef said she is addressing “false information” that is being spread about her assault case.
The personal chef who accused Stefon Diggs of strangulation and misdemeanor assault last December is speaking out.
In a statement shared with TMZ, Mila Adams said she wanted to “address false information” around her case against the Patriots star, and said that she “would never make false claims for personal gain or to damage someone’s reputation.” She also wrote that she is being careful to protect her own reputation as a longtime personal chef to “public figures and in the sports industry.”
“I did not seek public attention and reported this matter through the proper legal channels,” Adams’ statement said. “This is an active criminal matter, and I will continue to respect the legal process. I will not engage in rumors, personal attacks, or respond to misinformation on social media, and I will ask others to refrain from spreading false narratives.”
According to her statement, Adams is not seeking a settlement from Diggs.
“I have never sought money nor engaged in settlement discussions to settle this matter, statements suggesting otherwise are harmful and untrue,” she said.
Diggs made his first court appearance regarding the case on Friday (Feb. 13), pleading not guilty. He is set to return on April 1 as the legal process continues. His lawyers have said they are “confident that after the facts and evidence are reviewed in this case, he will be completely exonerated.”
Following the allegations last December, the New England Patriots released a statement in support of Diggs, adding the organization “will continue to gather information and will cooperate fully with the appropriate authorities and the NFL as necessary.” The NFL declined to comment at the time.
Diggs was also hit with another lawsuit earlier this month, where he was accused of defamation and linked to an alleged assault over a stolen luxury vehicle.
In her statement, Adams said she is focused on “healing, my work, and moving forward with integrity,” as the case is ongoing.
“I trust the legal process to address the facts, and I hope anyone following this matter will do the same.”
Fatal Shooting At South Carolina State Halts HBCU Basketball Games
February 14, 2026
Gunfire erupted at the Hugine Suites complex, a student residential area, and the campus was placed on lockdown.
Shots were fired on South Carolina State University’s campus, putting a hold on campus activity from Feb. 13 through Feb. 16.
On the night of Feb.12, two men were shot and killed, and an individual was injured on the South Carolina State campus. The tragedy halted campus events, including the MEAC basketball doubleheader against Morgan State University scheduled for Feb. 14.
At approximately 9:15 p.m., gunfire erupted at the Hugine Suites complex, a student residential area. The campus was placed on lockdown, and the university instructed students to shelter in place as the incident unfolded.
As reported by HBCU Gameday, “The University issued an immediate alert instructing students to take shelter in place while the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) and local authorities secured the perimeter.”
On Feb.13, authorities identified the deceased as 19-year-old Henry L. Crittington and 18-year-old Terrell Thomas. Neither man was an active student at South Carolina State University. The current student who was injured is receiving medical care at a hospital.
In response to the tragedy, the university canceled classes and activities to allow the campus community time to mourn and grieve. President Alexander Conyers stated that students’ safety remains the university’s top priority. The university is also offering counseling services to students and staff who need them.
This incident marks the second fatal shooting on campus this school year. In October 2025, another shooting occurred during Homecoming festivities, where gunfire near the same residential area claimed the life of 19-year-old Jaliyah Butler and left another individual injured.
The women’s basketball game against Morgan State has been rescheduled for Feb. 16 at 2:00 p.m. EST. The men’s team will play Coppin State at 4:30 p.m. EST that same day, creating a new doubleheader. The men’s game against Morgan State has been moved to Feb. 25. A specific tip-off time will be announced at a later date.

In the County: Are Officials Opening an ICE Office in Hunt Valley?

The Baltimore County Council’s emergency session Tuesday could provide more clarity on how local leaders plan to respond moving forward.
Rumors surrounding a potential ICE office in Hunt Valley are now being looked into by Baltimore County leadership.
According to the Baltimore County Executive’s Office, officials recently learned that the U.S. General Services Administration has leased office space in the county, but what that space will ultimately be used for remains unclear.
County Executive Kathy Klausmeier said her team is actively investigating whether the Department of Homeland Security plans to operate an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office there.
Sources tell channel 11 News the office space in question sits across from Hunt Valley Towne Centre along McCormick Road, a location that has quickly become the focal point of community concern.
In a statement released Friday, Klausmeier acknowledged the fear that ICE’s presence has created in communities nationwide.

“Across the country, the presence of ICE has created fear and uncertainty for immigrant families,” she said in part. “In Baltimore County, we believe every resident deserves to live, work, worship, and attend school without fear that their family will be torn apart or their daily life disrupted without warning.
“We want to be clear: we remain committed to protecting the safety, dignity, and rights of all who call Baltimore County home.”
In response to the growing concern, the Baltimore County Council is set to hold an emergency session Tuesday.
Councilman Julian Jones says he plans to introduce legislation aimed at preventing new detention centers from being established in the county, similar to recent action taken in Howard County to block a private facility in Elkridge.
“What I did was decided to come up with some legislation that would outlaw any new detention centers in Baltimore County, by anyone,” Jones explained.
Fellow councilmembers Izzy Patoka and Pat Young, both also running for county executive, are co-sponsoring the bill.
However, Jones acknowledged the limits of local power when it comes to federal agencies.
“The supremacy clause states that we don’t have any authority over the federal government,” he said. “We’re going to do everything we can do, up to the powers we have.”
If passed, the legislation would prohibit private companies, contractors, and property owners from operating detention centers locally. The bill defines detention facilities broadly, including prisons, jails, prerelease centers, and similar incarceration sites.
When asked about the reported lease, a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson declined to confirm whether the space would house ICE operations.
“ICE will not confirm office locations as our officers are facing a coordinated campaign of violence against them,” the statement read, citing sharp increases in threats and assaults against personnel.
The spokesperson added that the agency has expanded its workforce significantly, noting that thousands of additional officers have been added nationwide, creating increased demand for office space.
For now, officials stress that no confirmed ICE office has been announced in Hunt Valley, only that federal space has been leased.
