After claiming celebrities deserve special treatment during a viral exchange with Keith Lee, 2 Chainz is apologizing for his comments.
After a recent debate with Keith Lee about whether celebs deserve special treatment went viral, 2 Chainz is apologizing.
On Tuesday, Nov. 3, the 49-year-old rapper apologized for his remarks and revealed in a post on X that he had since spoken with Lee.
“I got a chance to speak to Keith after the podcast, and it was all love,” he began.
“I know my words offended some people and I apologize for that,” he continued.
The apology comes days after the “No Lie” rapper appeared alongside Lee on Kirk Franklin’s “Den of Kings” podcast, where he mistakenly accused the popular food critic of giving Esco Restaurant & Tapas, a restaurant he co-owns with Mychel “Snoop” Dillard in Atlanta, a negative review. Despite the fact that Lee had never actually visited or reviewed Esco, the discussion quickly led to a debate over whether celebrities deserve preferential treatment and mounting backlash against the rapper.
As the discussion continued, Lee explained that his reviews aren’t just about the food but also the experience everyday customers can expect. He recalled sending his mother-in-law into several Atlanta restaurants where she struggled to receive service, only for staff to accommodate him immediately once he arrived.
I got a chance to speak to Keith after the podcast and it was all love. I know my words offended some people and I apologize for that. What I said and what I meant were two different things. I could’ve done a better job getting my point across. Toni
“I don’t ever want to put nobody in a situation that they get a different experience only because they not Keith Lee,” he explained.
However, 2 Chainz defended the privileges that fame affords and argued that he had earned some of the perks that come with it after how hard he’s worked.
“I’m an entertainer, and obviously we get perks that other people don’t get,” he said. “I don’t stand in line at the airport. I don’t do none of that because I done work my a— off to do this.”
His comments didn’t land well with many, who came to Lee’s defense as clips of the exchange circulated online. Some criticized the rapper’s apparent sense of entitlement, while others called for him to apologize for confronting Lee over a review he hadn’t even written.
“What I said and what I meant were two different things,” the rapper continued in his Tuesday apology. “I could’ve done a better job getting my point across.”
